Where does the Time Go (Song)
- Posted by deborah on April 3rd, 2011
This song was orignally written by Sandy Denny and has been covered by a number of talented artist. One of my favourit recording of thi song is a live recording by Nina Simone on the 21st April in 1933. Nina talks to the audience, introducing the song with some wise words.
Spoken: We are recording tonight and because we are recording tonight we’re trying to do some things that I’m actually too tired to do, but as Fay Donaway I think it was leaving she said Bonnie and Clyde came out on stage and tried to give people what they wanted, that’s a mistake really I know, well you can’t do it, you use up everything you’ve got trying to give everybody what they want.
But I will learn my lesson soon and then you’ll buy more records right because you’ll want to see me.
Lets see what we can do with this lovely lovely thing that goes past, all racial conflicts and all types of conflicts, it’s a reflection tune and sometime in your life you’ll will have an occasion to say what is this thing called time? You know, what is that. The Clock, You work by the clock you get you’re martini by the clock, you coffee by the clock, you have to get on the plane at a certain time arrive at a certain time And it goes on and on and on and time is a dictator as we know know it, where does it go what does it do and most of all is it alive, is it a thing we can not touch is it alive and one day you look in the mirror how old and you say where did the time go, we’ll leave you with that on.
Across the morning sky, all the birds are leaving
How can they know, that it's time to go?
Before the winter fire, will still be dreaming
I do not count the time
Who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?
Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving
Ah, but then you know, that it's time for them to go
But I will still be here, I have no thoughts of leaving
I do not count the time
Who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?
And I am not alone as long my love is near me
I know it will be so until it's time to go
All through the winter until the birds return again in spring
I do not fear time
Who knows where the time goes?
And who knows where the time goes?
